I still haven't quite made up my mind whether this is useless or not. What I believe is that a website should be treated like any other piece of marketing material and monitored on a regular basis to ensure that it's doing what you paid for it to do.
It's Saturday afternoon, the wife has taken the kids to a village fete and I thought I'd go through all the statistics for some of our sites. I just picked the first 23 on the list and looked at their Google Analytics data to see how much of their traffic was generated from search engines and how much was generated from Google.
So:
If we take Redcat Media's stats as an example, it works like this:
If nothing else, what it says is that around 50% of traffic is derived from search engines. If you don't know what your statistics are then you need to talk to your web design company. If they don't know either then you need to talk to us. We now install Google Analytics on every site we build whether it's one page or a thousand pages.
